Koriyama City is very energetic and powerful, and the prime point
of the power lay in Meiji Era. In the beginning of Meiji, Asaka
Canal was completed by irrigating from Lake Inawashiro to Asaka
Plain. At the same time, Meiji Government encouraged warriors to
work for their living in Japan, and then immigrants from throughout
the country changed swords for hoes and worked with the local people
to cultivate the barren wilds. Both successes of the projects were
driving forces for the development of Koriyama. Let's go straight
to the west along Sakura St. to visit Kaiseikan and find its history.
